Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line Improvement projectJanuary 2008. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has solicited Engineering and Construction Phase services for the Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line Improvement Project. Services will include preliminary and final design and construction phase of commuter rail facilities and systems, including but not limited to new and rehabilitated track, signals, stations, bridges. The design process for all of the elements of the Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line Improvements Project will be completed simultaneously, leading to the release of a bid document package for construction of the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA). The Locally Preferred Alternative was determined through the Alternatives Analysis Process and approved into Project Development stage of Small Starts funding by the Federal Transit Adminstration. The LPA defines a series of infrastructure improvements that will increase travel speed and reliability along the length of the Fitchburg Line. The first task of the Fitchburg Commuter Rail Improvements Project will be to complete Conceptual Systemwide Engineering, which will define the scope of the design process for all of the individual Project elements. The Conceptual Systemwide Engineering develops the schedule of all design and construction elements for this design contract, through Project Development (design phases) and for the construction period. |
